Hello Family & Friends,
Well I've been home for 8 days now and I'm still trying to adjust. I miss being in Africa with the kids and family i made. I know this is where God has me now and I'm accepting that, but I think about the kids all of the time. They stole my heart for sure!
I'm not sure if anyone is still following but for those that are PLEASE PRAY for Masupa. I received a call from Julia this morning that Masupa ran away. He was one of the older boys (11) that I fell in love with. He was the one that taught me how to play soccer and how to do some tricks. He is also the one that Julia and I went and bought shoes for before I left. Last week Julia sent me a video from him and told me that he kept saying he missed "Auntie Jamie" and that he didn't want Julia to leave. Friday she went to see them all and she said he told her then he didn't want her to leave. When she got there on Saturday to spend her last day with them he was gone. The older boys said that he was cleaning his new shoes before he left and crying. They said he scaled the block wall and ran away. It has been four days now and no word from him. The house mom said he is very street smart which is good, but they are also worried he knows how to make himself disappear so they can't find him. He has left before and the cops found him, but he told them he was someone else. This breaks my heart...I'm so worried about him. Please pray for his safety and that the cops find him soon and are able to get him back to the House of Martha with his family.
Thank you all again for prayers, love and support! Please continue praying for the kids and those of us struggling to be away from them.
Love you all!
God will be using me this summer as I take a leap of faith and head to Zambia, Africa on a mission trip with Alliance for Children Everywhere (ACE). I will see first hand the decimation due to HIV/AIDS and poverty and work with the ministry of ACE a partner with The Outreach Foundation (PCUSA).
African Shower
My wonderful family hosted a shower to help me pack my suitcase to take to the children.

Don't want to leave!
Hello all. I'm going to do my best to share with you the past two days, but it won't be easy. I never imagined that leaving would be so hard, but I know that it's Gods plan for me now.
Friday evening was as fun as I anticipated. Julia, Heidi, Daniel and I went to the House of Martha to fix dinner and have some one on one with the big kids. It was so much fun playing and talking with them. They taught us a lot of the fun hand/singing games and songs (no I didn't sing). Daniel and i taught the boys how to play American football, well kind of:) We started with 5 on 5 and it ended up being a keep away game with all the kids. We will say my team won 2-1! After dinner we stayed for evening devotion which I video taped and cry every time I listen to it. We gathered in the living room and the kids worshiped/sang for about 15 minutes. It was breath taking to see the little ones being touched by the Lord. Very hard to explain!
Saturday was the best yet hardest day I've had. Our entire group went to the House of Martha to have lunch and spend the afternoon doing crafts and playing ball. Before going Julia and I went shopping to buy Masupa a pair of tennis shoes. He's been trying to teach me all week how to bounce soccer ball on my foot and very rarely does he have shoes on. He tried mine on the night before but they were too big. I was able to give mine to Abraham, the oldest boy, who also has tried teaching me to play soccer all week.
After lunch we started crafts with all the kids. They were coloring pictures, making picture frames, and Chinese stars. Each age group and something to make that they could keep. We had them make the picture frames out of paper and took pictures all day that we will print for
them this week. They all started making frames and notes for Julia and I. I have the sweetest frames, "I love you, God bless, thank you" notes to bring home. I will be able to decorate my entire office with crafts. It was the sweetest thing.
It was time to leave and I started saying goodbye...that's about the extent I can write for now. Pulling away from the house was awful...
I am not sure that I'll be able to blog again before leaving...I'm not able to keep it together right now.
I will check in when I can (maybe in a month or even a year:))
Love you all. Please pray for a few new kids that have come in (Beatrice, Isaiha, Mercy). We were at the House of Martha Friday night when CPU brought Beatrice to House of Martha. The kids were so good with her and welcoming. They weren't sure of her story yet, but she is probably 10-12 years old. Pray for all of the kids here please!

Mwuaka BWanji
Good morning family and friends (afternoon for me)! I'm sorry I haven't kept up with my blog the past few days I only have Internet service in the common area and it's been full in the evenings.
So I'll start with Wednesday...I went into town with Don, Jane, Julia and two staff members (Uncle G and Banda) to shop for the House of Martha (older kids). The team before I got here left money for Jane to go buy the house a new washer, sewing machines and vacuum cleaner (trust me I already have a list I want to buy before leaving for the houses). When we took everything over to the house the kids were so excited. They were jumping up and down with Mom Nelly (house mom) and the vacuum cleaner. They are all so grateful for everything that they have.
Wednesday evening we hung at the house and had a wonderful dinner. It was just our small group that have become family (Don, Jane, Heidi, Daniel, Julia and Banda). We had so much fun sitting and laughing and talking. It was like sitting at a family gathering except we let the boys sit with us:).
Thursday morning Don and Jane drove Julia and I out to Chamanuka for the day. This was our "personal" day. It's about an hour drive on dirt roads. I was able to see the side of Africa I was envisioning. We passed a lot of huts, people walking for miles with goods on their head, etc.
Chamanuka is like a small safari resort. It was breath taking. We went out on a game drive to see the wildlife for about two hours, took a boat ride and went horse back riding. We were up close and personal with lions, giraffes, elephants, impalas, and more. I have lots of pictures to share.
The craziest part of being away from the house for 24 hours is that I missed the kids terribly. I heard a baby cry at the resort and got real sad and anxious to get back this morning. I'm not real sure what I will do next week:(. I'm trying to not think about it and enjoy the next few days.
I'm going to spend the rest of this afternoon with the toddlers and babies then this evening we're heading to House of Martha to fix dinner with the big kids and hang out. I can't wait! Tomorrow we're going to go back over and spend the day with them playing ball and doing other activities. We are thinking of getting ingredients to make cupcakes with them and let them decorate.
I love being here with the babies and toddlers, but I really like visiting the older kids. I'm super excited I'll be able to spend this evening and tomorrow with them before I have to head home. Thank you Jesus for my flight getting messed up and allowing me two more days here:)!
I'm off to play with little ones. Love you all! Thanks for prayers and support. Sorry I haven't responded to comments I've tried limiting my time online, but I'm reading them and loving them all!

2 days worth!
Let me start off with Monday since I didn't blog yesterday (I was beat). We started the morning off with devotion that rocked my world. They have a staff change on Monday so we had a house full for devotion. It was very powerful to hear them all sing and speak from the soul. I of course sat in awe during worship.
I made my way upstairs for a little while to hold the tiny babies before we headed out for the day. We spent our afternoon at the House of Martha which is the ACE children 6-15 years of age. This is where I wanted to be since before I got here. We took a tour of the grounds. They have three smaller homes, one for living and dorm, two for school and dorms, and three for arts and crafts. The older kids were having a school lesson so we spent time with the younger ones helping with crafts. Some of them were a little shy when we first got there, but once I got on the floor and started helping make necklaces they warmed up. We had so much fun making the crafts and then I got the camera phone out. We had a blast. They wanted to take funny pictures and then look at them. I showed them pictures of Peytan and Gavin and they stared for awhile and asked questions. They asked if Peytan was my sister (kids are so sweet).
Once school was done we went outside to play with all the kids. I found myself playing soccer with two kids (we all know I can't play soccer) and next thing I know all the kids want to. So Julia and I had them form a line and we took turns kicking. It amazed me how structured the kids are and how well the follow direction. They kept the line formed for over 30 minutes playing ball. The kids opened up to us the longer we were there. I'm going back on Saturday with a few others to play games and activities. I can't wait. I will tell you all an amazing prayer one or the little ones prayed that hit hard. They are so appreciative and love the Lord even after what they've been through.
I finished the evening after dinner with the toddlers. They are all so sweet and are starting to recognize me when I walk in the door. I have one that gives me fist and they all make a noise when they realize I'm in the room. We were all in bed by 9:30pm after and emotionally and physically exhausting day.
Tuesday: I started the morning with devotion (daily for each house) and coffee. It's very simple but moving each morning. We walked to the Bill & Bette house which is where the 2-5 year olds are. They were having a lesson as well so we watched the class then walked to Zambeadsies. This is a little hut where they make beads out of magazines and boxes and sell them for money for ACE children. I only bought a few:). Yes my Peytan I got you red and black!
I left the group early to meet Meredith Zimmerman (Erik's cousin in Peace Corp) for lunch. We sat and chatted for over two hours. I have pics and goodies for the family. She looks great and seems very happy--don't worry Zimmerman Family!
We stayed in the rest of the afternoon. Our team is leaving in the morning so we had a cry session on what has touched us the most and broke our hearts the most then played games. I did however visit the babies again and the twins I want to bring home with me had me laughing hysterical. I would chase the brother around and tickle him and his twin sister, Blessings, would crack up. She was losing her mind laughing so hard. I was so excited because the first two days she wouldn't even look at me. Shes warmed up the past two days but this evening she was so fun and happy. It made my night.
Sorry this is so long (you should read my journal), but I dont know what to tell and not tell. I'm off to bed! Thanks for prayers and all the comments. Sorry I haven't commented to each of you individually, but I try to limit my time on Internet.
Love you all

1st full day
Good evening all! Today was a great, but cold day. We started the morning off with a 3+ hour church service which most was in Nyanja not English. By the grace of God I was into it and got a little bit out of it. The music was amazing! Uncle G, Heidi (one of my roomies), Levi and Obey played most of the service. They are the band that plays on the ACE website video which I've shared with most of you. I'll buy a cd to share before I head home.
After church we went to exchange my mone then to lunch and market. My lunch was $600,000 I'm not sure I'll have enough to get home:). The money will take a bit of getting use to but Don and Jane were helpful. The market was just as interesting as I've been told. I wanted to buy everything. I don't think my suitcases will be empty (already got Gavin and Peytan something). We will try and go back next Sunday before I leave. I didn't want to spend too much at beginning of trip.
We got home about 17:00 (yes that's how they tell time and I of course have to count in my head what time it really is) and I thought I would jump on the computer real quick. That didn't work I heard the kids and had to go play. I was able to get a few names memorized and a few that remembered me. I think they're just excited to see a new face and someone that pays attention to them. They were climbing over each other to get my attention. So of course I stayed to feed them again. It's the messiest thing I've ever seen. We feed them N'Shima they say you haven't eaten until you've tried it. Its mush in soup and we feed to them with our hands. It's actually cute to see the older ones doing it by themselves.
Since dinner we've been hanging out...I've been chatting with family and now waiting on a new group ton arrive. They said it will get hectic once they get here. I'm looking forward to that!
So not sure how many pictures I'll get to take. This genius (me) opened my camera at church and the red light was flashing. I laid the camera out weeks ago and cleared the memory card but forgot to charge. I'm going to try to use the others chargers but I may be taking with my iPhone. I was pretty bummed about that. I've had a few big bone head moves (forgot debit card at walgreens had to get at 11pm before departing, forgot to get intl on my IPad so I can only get online in a room at house of Moses and then the camera). O well I'm here, the memories will be more than a picture can describe and I'm online enough to communicate that I'm ok! No complaints just errors on my end. Maybe God is telling me to enjoy while I'm out and not worry about pics and updates????
Well our new crew just showed up. Going to greet them and head to bed!
Have a great week everyone. Love you all!

Hello from Zambia
I don't even known where to start...I have arrived safely to Lusaka and I'm at the House of Moses with the babies and staff. It's a bit different that we just put the babies down for bed and you are all still at the pool or ballgames enjoying the day. It's about bedtime for me.
The travel was not bad at all. I was able to stay awake until we left DC which was nice. I fell asleep before we left the ground from US. I was up off and on during the 13 hours but slept a good portion so it made it go by smooth. When I got to Ethiopia it was a breeze. I waited for 30 minutes and boarded next flight no customs or problems. I of course slept most of the next flight as well (5 hours) until we landed in Lusaka. Lusaka was a breeze too. I had to get a visitors visa and my bags were ready by the time I was done. Customs looked at my passport and sent me on--never opened one bag. Don, Jane and my new roomie, Julia, were waiting on me as soon as I came out of baggage claim. Super nice people! Mom/dad they want an IPad and to meet you:). They said tell you hello! Pretty sure I'm going to fit right in.
We took a quick tour of the house and I unpacked a bit, but was ready to get my hands in it! We have 0-8 months upstairs and 8-16 months downstairs. I spent the evening downstairs playing with the kids, feeding them and getting them ready for bed. It was amazing, but sad as well. JoBeth I'm glad you have living area for "us" downstairs. They of course melted my heart. They wanted to play and dance until we put them to bed and a few are still crying.
Tomorrow we are heading to church (kyndee, we are picking up uncle G and his band to take with us to church) then going to market to shop. We will hopefully visit the bigger kids tomorrow so I can distribute the school supplies, toys and clothes. I'll keep you update on our day.
Thanks for all of the safety prayers. God was with me all of the way!

Emotions
This is a warning to all the followers--i am getting emotional! My work is almost done (as close as it's going to get), my bags are packed and I'm getting ready to leave my house! I was running some errands and could barely listen to the radio without getting choked up.
I am apologizing in advance if i get sappy on here, but I feel so very blessed to be able to go on this mission trip. I am so blessed that my family has raised me to know God and have reminded me to be quiet and listen to Him. That is the only way this trip has been possible. I felt it on my heart and I tried making excuses of why I couldn't go, but I was quiet just long enough to follow Him.
I pray that I will be able to hear Him in Africa and that I will be able to share the Word with the children there.
Thank you again! Please pray for my safety during my travels tomorrow. Pray for my mothers strength to get through tomorrow and know that I will be ok (may not want to call her she normally can't talk when one of her kids is traveling).
Love you all!

1.5 days to go
WOW I can't believe it's here! I wanted to send a quick note today to see if those following me are getting updates. Myself and family are all new to blogging so we've had some difficulties:-)! Hopefully this message will update at least mom, dad, tony, jobeth and grandparents (i tried setting it up through my account).
As I expected this week has been very overwhelming! I always get this way before leaving work for a few days, but it's worse since I'll be gone for 11 with NO phone or work documents. SORRY JoBeth! I started having my usual freak out dreams on Sunday so I'm sure I'll be able to sleep on the plane a little. I of course wake-up in panic mode that my suitcase isn't packed, I forget everything I need and I miss my flight. So please say a prayer for me that I won't do any of those in the next two days!
Thank you everyone and for supporting and following me on my journey! I am so excited to update you on the activities I will be doing while I'm in Africa. I will not be able to post any pictures of the kids as it's A.C.E. policy to have no pictures on the internet. I will make a photo book when i get home to share!
I have to run to get more work done and spray all of my clothes and suitcases so I don't bring anything home--wow we are very blessed to live in a clean country!
Love you all!

I have to run to get more work done and spray all of my clothes and suitcases so I don't bring anything home--wow we are very blessed to live in a clean country!
Love you all!
